Frances A Bailey

December 24, 1932 ~ November 24, 2016 (age 83) 83 Years Old

The matriarch of our family, Ms. Frances Annie Bailey, 83, was born on December 24, 1932 in East Spencer, North Carolina to the late Allen Mose and Annie Watts Bailey.  She was called home by her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at  5:05 am at the Brian Center  of Salisbury. 

The second child of her parents' three daughters, Ms. Bailey attended elementary and high school at Dunbar in East Spencer.  A member of the Class  of 1950, she graduated  from Dunbar High School where she was known as a talented basketball player.  She attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. 

Ms. Bailey moved to New York where she became an Operating Room Surgical Technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital. She was employed there for more than 30 years.  She retired and returned to Salisbury to live with her youngest sister, Marva A. Bailey.    She decided that she had more to give to her community and  became a school crossing guard for Sacred Heart Catholic School.  She enjoyed her new adventure and was loved by students, parents, and staff.

Having been reared in and became an active member of Southern City A.M.E Zion Church in East Spencer, she reunited with her childhood church upon her return to Salisbury.  Again, she become an active member until her health failed.

An involved individual, she loved spending time with her classmates and friends.  She served with Mrs. Essie Mae Foxx on the Dunbar School Mass Reunion.  She enjoyed traveling and attending special events.  She enjoyed life!

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her two sons, Ronnie Charleston Bailey and Terry Wayne Bailey;  her sisters, Willette "Julie" Bailey and Marva Allene Bailey; and niece, Darnetta "Donnetta" C. Bailey Alexander.

Ms. Bailey leaves loving and precious memories to family and friends.  She is survived by a granddaughter, Mauri Y. Bailey Belarmino (Gavin), and great grandson, Anakin Belarmino, all of Staten Island, New York; niece, Ermenese Bailey Kirksey of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law, Dr. Sherylyn B. Bailey (Ronnie - deceased), of New York; grand nieces, Shelly Kirksey Hopson (David),  LaQuinnta A. Alexander;   grand nephews, William Kirksey (Rebecca), Kenneth Kirksey,  Honore I. Alexander, Jr., Jamel A. Alexander (Allison); great grand nephews, Jordan Hopson, Jared Hopson, Khamel Alexander; great grand nieces, Darrian Kirksey, Katana Alexander, Olivia Alexander, Lilly Kirksey, Gabrielle Alexander, Karen Kirksey; a beloved stepson, Edwin Thurmond;  nephew-in-law, Honore I. Aexander, Sr. (Darnetta - deceased); niece-in-law, Arnethia J. Alexander -Daniels (John A.);  and a host of cousins and dear friends.

Service:  Visitation:11:00 a.m., funeral-11:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Southern City Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, East Spencer, NC, Rev. Patrick Tate, pastor, eulogist.  Burial will follow in Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery, Salisbury. 

The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Jamel A. Alexander, at 1220 Henderson Grove Church Road, Salisbury.
