Lee T McKenzie

January 20, 1944 ~ December 26, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old


Deacon Lee T. McKenzie, age 73 of Salisbury, passed on, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.  He was born in Rowan County on January 20, 1944 to the late Ralph McKenzie, Sr., and Janie Gibson McKenzie.  He was a graduate of Dunbar High School in East Spencer, NC.  He retired as a machinist with W. S. Tyler.  He was a devoted and faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Granite Quarry, NC, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and a  member of the Men's Ministry.  He was also a very active member of the Rowan/Davie Deacon Alliance and Rufty Holmes Senior Center.  He was very instrumental in helping to raise money for the local community recreation center.  He loved playing the drums and working in his yard.  He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army and received three medals: A Gold Star, Purple Heart and a Medal of Service.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Patricia Ann Washington McKenzie, a son, Joe Washington, a daughter, Rhonda McKenzie, a sister; Rosetta Byrd and brothers, Doug McKenzie, Ralph McKenzie, and Glen McKenzie, Sr..

Deacon McKenzie leaves fond memories to his children;sons; Earl Finney, Winston-Salem, NC, and Robert Lee McKenzie, Lexington, NC, daughters; Constance McKenzie Roseboro, Lexington, NC, and Nicole R. Washington, Badin, NC; brother, Odell McKenzie (Gussie), Salisbury, NC, sisters; Bernice Allen, Loudenville, NY, and Loraine Smith, Lexington, NC; brother-in-law, Ernest Washington (Patricia), Badin, NC, and "special friend", Shirley Milord, Salisbury, NC; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, church family, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of the life of Deacon McKenzie will be held on, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave., Granite Quarry, NC.  Visitation:  11:00 a.m. Funeral: 12:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the Rowan military honor guard..  Rev. Ricky Johnson, pastor, officiant/eulogist.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home of his daughter, Constance McKenzie Roseboro, 23 Woodcrest Drive, Lexington, NC  27295.
