Lula B (Norman) Holloway

December 12, 1939 ~ March 8, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Mrs. Lula Belle Norman Holloway received her wings on Wednesday, March 8 at 5:23pm at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center, surrounded by loving family. Born on December 12, 1939 in Laurens, SC to the late Bryant Norman, Sr. and Susie G. Norman, she lived her remaining years in Salisbury.

A graduate of Price High School, and a 1962 graduate of Livingstone College, she also studied at the University of Maryland at College Park and N.C. A &T State University in Greensboro. She retired from teaching in the Rowan –Salisbury Schools following a career as a Career and Technical Educator. Lula served as school secretary in Huntersvile, NC and a College recruiter and Assistant to the Registrar at Livingstone College. She had served as Head Start Director in Salisbury and Statesville, NC at I Care Community Action Center.

She was best known for her cheerful manner, her easy smile and encouraging words to everyone, especially, young people. She sincerely loved people!

Lula was a devoted, life- long member of Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church where she served as a Deaconess, Leader of Leaders, WHOM and Life Member of the Lay Council.

In the community, she was a dedicated member of Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Las Amigas and the local Branch of the NAACP.

She leaves  cherished memories to her husband of 53 years, C. Norris Holloway, Sr, brother, Dr. Bryant Norman, Jr.(Kay), Salisbury; children Tonya H. Davis (Benjamin), Kannapolis; Charles N. Holloway, Jr., Salisbury and Leslie D. Ellis (Prescott), Odenton, Md; Sister-in law, Sarah J. Norman, (Salisbury) 7 grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends.

She was predeceased by brother, John W. Norman and nephew, Jonathan W. Norman.

The family will receive friends at the home of Dr. Bryant Norman @ 155 Dove Lane, Salisbury.

Service: Visitation & Funeral: Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., at Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church.  Rev. Dr. Derrick R. Anderson, pastor, and eulogist.  Burial will be held on, Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., at the U.S. National Cemetery, 202 Government Road/South Railroad St., Salisbury, NC.
