Mrs. Carrie W. Hawkins, age 103, of Salisbury, passed on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Born on Dec. 27, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Milas and Hattie McNeely Withers. She was educated in the public schools of Rowan County. She worked for many years with Granite Knitwear and was a member of Henderson Grove Baptist Church, where she previously sang in the Mass & Spiritual Choirs, and served on the kitchen committee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hawkins; daughters, Minetta Poag and Willette Brown; brothers, Henry and Sherwood; and sister, Nancy Mae Kerns.
Those who will forever cherish her memory are grandchildren, Rodney Harris (Ella), Hezekiah Poag (Valerie), Ronald Poag, Carrie Lagree and Daryl Brown; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Service & Visitation: Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Henderson Grove Baptist Church, Salisbury with visitation at 1 p.m. and funeral at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Perry J. Dye, pastor, will officiate.
The family will be receiving friends at the home of Rodney and Ella Harris, 225 Wise Lane, Salisbury, NC. Hairston Funeral Home, Inc., is serving the Hawkins family.
