Melvin West

Mr.Melvin West,age 58 of Salisbury, passed, Monday, September 30, 2019 at his residence.  He was born in New York on, November 14,1960 to Otis West, Sr., and Margaret Heiligh West.  Melvin attended William Cullen High School, obtained his GED, and later earned his welding degree.  He was last employed with Universal Forest Products.  

He was predeceased by a daughter, Shakina West, brother, Anthony Dorell West, grandmother's Teora West and Mabel Dillegard and grandfather, John West.

Survivor's include his children; Andrea Leonore West, Greensboro, NC; Melvin Javon West, Glenda, Pa.; and Alene Alysea Monee Blakeney, Salisbury, NC.  seven grandchildren (2 on the way). sisters; Jacqueline R. Adams (Elder James Adams), Queens, NY; Deborah K. West, Salisbury, NC; Sharon West-Swafford (Rameik), Salisbury, NC; brothers, Otis Eugene West, Jr., (Becky), Salisbury, NC and William West (Janeen), Salisbury, NC; his long-term partner, Lureadian; 21 nieces and nephews, 22 great nieces and nephews, and 1 great great niece, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Melvin was a good friend, dad, son, uncle, grandfather and brother.  He  had a heart of gold and was the family and neighborhood mechanic.  He was the backbone and protector of his family and the person we could go to for anything.  He will be missed by many.  He was a warrior-an original gangster that kept it real. Although, this has been hard, Melvin would want the family to continue living and remember all the good and crazy things he did!

Service:  Saturday, October 5, 2019, Gethsemane Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell Street,  Salisbury.  Visitation-1:00 p.m. Funeral-2:00 p.m.  Hairston Funeral Home is serving the West family.  Online condolences may be sent to hairstonfh.com.
