With profound love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Beaurina Bettye "Muffy" Mobley, who peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on June 25, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on September 22, 1931, in Salisbury, NC, to Raymond and Della Ingram, Muffy was the youngest daughter of the proud Ingram/Simmons family. At the age of 3 her family relocated to Newark, NJ, where she was raised, received her education, and developed the strength, determination, and grace that would define her remarkable life. Muffy often reflected on the wisdom of her great-grandfather, Jack, whose encouragement to always keep moving forward became a guiding principle throughout her life. She began her career working in a factory and was an exceptionally talented seamstress. Never one to settle, she attended secretarial school, becoming one of the fastest typists in her class while also mastering shorthand stenography.

Later, after relocating to Pleasantville, NJ, to be near her ailing mother, Muffy began what would become a distinguished 25-year career with the Atlantic County Department of Social Services. While faithfully serving her community, she remained committed to her education, transferring from Essex County Community College to the newly established Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, where she proudly earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology & Anthropology, followed by a professional certification in Social Work. Her dedication to lifelong learning was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Muffy's greatest accomplishment, however, was the love she poured into her family.  She married Leroy King Mobley, and together they built a beautiful, blended family. With Leroy’s 12 children and Muffy’s 4 children, including their spouses, children and grandchildren, family functions were more like family reunions. As Leroy and Muffy grew older in love, there was never a dull moment with them. Their marriage stood as a shining example of faithfulness, devotion, and unconditional love for 32 years, until Leroy's passing.

Muffy loved talking on the phone for hours to her family and friends. She loved her stories, game shows and educational documentaries. She also loved to travel and meet new people from all walks of life.  Muffy had a very adventurous and optimistic personality. She always said that every experience and event in your life is an opportunity for an adventure that will always create memories.

Muffy discovered a deep passion for family genealogy. Alongside her beloved cousin Francella, who shared her enthusiasm, she meticulously researched and documented generations of family history. Together they created an extraordinary family tree that preserved the legacy of countless ancestors. Muffy truly became her family's Griot, the honored keeper and storyteller of their history, ensuring that future generations would always know where they came from.

In 2018 Muffy relocated to North Carolina with one of her beloved granddaughters Sequoyah Walker, to be closer to “home” as she called it. During this time Muffy was able to reconnect with her family, who had remained in the south over the years. “Cousin Beaurina” as they affectionately called her was like a superstar, which she was, when you reflect over her life.  She always spoke with such grace and confidence whenever anyone inquired about our family history.

Later in life, Muffy relocated to Florida with her youngest daughter, Beaurina "Jackie" Benjamin, and her husband, Francis Benjamin, whose unwavering love, compassion, and selfless care brought comfort, dignity, and peace to Muffy throughout the sunset of her life. Your devotion was a priceless gift to her and to our entire family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leroy King Mobley; son, Jerome (Steven) Ingram Sr; grandson, Arthur E. Jackson; sister, Lue Jane Jenkins; brother, Jake Ingram; nephews John T. Jenkins & Walter Jenkins, great-granddaughter Syntia Johnson and a very special cousin Bernice Thompson.

Muffy leaves to cherish in memory, her loving children: Beverly Thomas, Linda Haynes, Beaurina “Jackie” Benjamin (Francis) and adopted son Sharrod Mobley. Her grandchildren: Rolando Montgomery, Daniel K. Jackson, Zsalyne Fergus, Maia Crump, Jerry Walker Jr., Sequoyah Walker, Andrae Walker, Jerome Ingram Jr, Simone Walker & Ashley Ingram. Her devoted and loving nieces, Mujiba Razzaqq, Hannah Ingram, Teresa Ingram and Kelly Ingram, special cousins Ollie “Tippy” Wiley, Francella Trueblood and Burl Alexander. 34 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice knowing that her story continues in each life she touched and every generation she inspired.

Rest in eternal peace, Muffy. Your love remains our inheritance, your wisdom, our guide, and your memory of our everlasting blessing.

Service:  Friday, July 10, 2026, Gethsemane Baptist Church, 719 S. Caldwell St., Salisbury.  Visitation:  11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  Funeral begins promptly at-12:30 p.m. Interment:  Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery, 415 Franklin Comm Ctr. Road, Salisbury, NC. No public viewing.
