Mr. Floyd Alexander Sloan, Sr., age 81 of 109 Hollins Dr., Salisbury, died, Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Brian Nursing Center, Salisbury. Mr. Sloan was born in Iredell County on January 14, 1928 to the late Thomas and Minnie Westmoreland Sloan. In addition to his parent's, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Sloan. He was educated in the public schools of Iredell County. He was retired from Rowan Business Forms as a supervisor, and was previously employed at Salisbury Flower Shop. He was a member of Sills Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was a former trustee board chairman, member of the Men's Booster Club, Choir, Lay Council, Parent Body of the Missionary Society, and former Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a member of the Masons, Eureka Lodge of the Scottish Rite Affilitate and former treasurer of Hawkinstown Community Club.
Suvivors include his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Hawkins Sloan of the home; sons, Floyd A. Sloan, Jr. (Helen), Pittsburgh, Pa., Darrell Sloan, Salisbury; and Willie Tabor, Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Pauline Joanne (Lester) Huntley, Atlanta, Ga., and Mary Tabor, Salisbury; sister, Evangelist Lucille Wilson (Lewis), Salisbury, sister-in-law, Ann Sloan, Lexington, NC, and Doretha KnoxMoore Sloan, Salisbury; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grand children, a hosts of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral service: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at Sills Creek A.M.E. Zion Church; Rev. Jordan Boyd, Pastor, Euologist and Bishop Harvey Rice, Officiant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation: 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the church.
