Mrs. Genolia Bush Hairston of 318 Hairston Rd., Lexington, NC died Saturday at Alston Brooks, Lexington.

Mrs. Hairston was born July 19, 1929 in Rowan County to the late Elisha and Helen Johnson Bush. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Lexington, NC. She retired from the Davidson County School Systems.

A member of Buncombe Baptist Church, Lexington, she was a Deaconess, member of teh Missionary Circle, Willing Workers, Sunday School, teacher of BTU, Surelette Gospel Singers, member of the Davidson County Chapter of the National Hairston Clan, past Memorial Chairman of the National Hairston Clan, Past Worthy Matron of the Golden Link Chapter #543 OES and the Women Achievement Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Harold Dean Hairston.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Verdeen Hairston of the home; sons, Donald Wayne Hairston (Ruthie), Los Angeles, CA, Garry Leon Hairston, Lexington, NC and Kenneth Avelia Hairston (Gale), Greensboro, NC; daughters, Shirley Hairston of the home and Helen Hairston Perry (Norman), Lexington, NC; brother, Emmanuel Bush (shelia), Salisbury, NC; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at Buncombe Baptist Church with the Pastor, Rev. Claude Forehand, II, Officiaitng. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
