Irene Corpening Obituary

Revelation 21:4  " And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.

It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of one of our dearest family members, Mrs. Irene Black Corpening on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Rowan County on October 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Black and the late Eula Heilig Black.  Irene was educated in the public schools of Rowan County and worked all of her adult life until she retired.  She was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee, Sr., ("Cope"), a son, Willie Lee Corpening, Jr.;  grandparents, Mamie Bernhardt Heilig; Laurin & Mary Heilig, John and Cora Miller Black; sister Valeria ("Val") Black Turner; brothers: Samuel Bobby Black, Raymond Lloyd Black, Donald Black, James Buford Black, Paul Eugene Black, Sr.; Phillip Black, William Edward Black, Calvin Black and Clifton Black.

Those who remain to cherish  fond memories are her daughter, Ada Trueblood Witte, son, Cleodis Trueblood, godson, James Greene (Chris); grandchildren Cleodis Cowan, Jr., Linda Cowan Peterson (Floyd), Curtis Cowan (Rahida)), Letonya ("Thang") Alexander and Anthony Lamont Witte, Sr.; sister, Brenda Black Clark (Johnny), sister-in-laws; Constance Black, Mary Walker Black, Ruth Corpening, Florene Jones (Percy), brother-in-laws; Parnell Corpening (Elaine), and Claude Corpening.  Several great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service:  Monday, September 2, 2024, Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St., Salisbury, NC.  Visitation: 1:30-2:30.  Funeral begins promptly at 2:30 p.m.  Rev. Dr. David L. Bracken, pastor/eulogist.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  

The family will greet visitors at the home of the deceased, 1121 N. Long Street, Salisbury, NC.
