Mr. James Rufus Gillespie, Jr., age 56 of Salisbury, passed Saturday, February 10, 2018 at his residence.  He was born on October 8, 1961 in Rowan County to the late Peggy Jean Mitchell and James Rufus Gillespie, Sr.  He was educated in the Rowan/Salisbury public schools and last attended North Rowan High School.  He was employed at The Tavern Restaurant, Salisbury, NC as a cook.  He was a member of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ.

In addition to his parent's, a sister, Sylvia Gillespie preceded him in death.

Those who will forever cherish his memory are his sons, Malcolm A. Gillespie-Lee , Justice A. Gillespie-Lee both of Seneca, SC and Malik A. McCauley of Dana Point, California; brothers; Melvin Mitchell, Salisbury, NC, Eric Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, both of Spencer, NC and Claude Gillespie of Charlotte, NC; sister, Deborah Gillespie and one grandchild, Ivory Hope Lee, special friend, Gwynn Trexler of the home and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins classmates and dear friends.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.  Hairston Funeral Home, Inc., is serving the Gillespie family.
