Mr. James Jimmerson,age 85, of 3400 Tryon Dr., Charlotte (formerly of Salisbury),entered eternal life Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Harris Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Jimmerson was born May 23, 1924 in Salisbury to the late Alma Jimmerson and Edward McCluney.
He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church and Eureka Masonic Lodge #45.
Mr. Jimmerson was a retired employee of Norfolk Southern Railway.
He was previously married to Mabel Cunningham to which two children, Shirley Smith and Nathaniel Jimmerson, were born.
He is also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Mae Phillips Jimmerson, a son, Pete Jimmerson, brother, Arthur Jimmerson, Sr., sisters, Johnnie Mae Zimmerman and Kathleen Taylor and step daughter, Mae Garner.
Those who shall forever cherish his memory are son, Nathaniel Jimmerson (Many), Salisbury; daughter,Shirley Smith (Jerry), Charlotte; step mother, Odell McCluney, Norfolk, VA; step sons, Willie Phllips and Norris Ellis both of Salisbury, james Phillips, Alexandria, VA, Jackie Phillips, Frederick, MD and Calvin Phillips, Murray, NC; step daughters, Kattie Hill and Rena Phillips both of Salisbury; brothers, Cleveland Jimmerson, Salisbury, Edward McCluney, Jr., Washington, DC, Charles McCluney and John McCluney both of Norfolk, VA; sisters, Judy Copeland, Charlotte, NC, Mattie Baynard, Scarlet Parson, Constance Berry, Margarie Allen all of Norfolk, VA, Rose Dykeman, Virginia Beach, VA and Paulette McCluney, Petersburg, VA; a grandson, Jackie Yancy was reared in the home; 24 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm and visitation 12:30 pm at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Pastor, Rev. Leamon Brown, officiating burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
