Mr. John Louis Blackwell, Sr., of 125 Blackwell Wood Dr., Salisbury,NC died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.

He was the son of the late William and Maggie Luckey Blackwell. He was educated in the public schools of Rowan County. Mr. Blackwell retired from Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a member of Hurley School Road Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

survivors include his wife, Mildred Flint Blackwell of the home; sons, Jerry O. Blackwell (Dixie) and Joseph Blackwell (Linda)both of Salisbury, NC; daughter, Brenda G. Blackwell-Pearman, Salisbury, NC; brothers, Robert O. Blackwell (Mona) and Bruce Blackwell (Dorothy) both of Salisbury, NC; sister, Ruth Laney (Bobby), Spencer, NC; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm and visitation 2:30 pm Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Hurley School Road of Jehovah's Witnesses with Brother Eddie Burkett, officiating; burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery. The body may viewed at Hairston Funeral Home, Inc. 703 South Main Street, Salisbury, NC from Tuesday, June 24, 2008,afternoon until 3:00 pm Wednesday.
