Mr. John Lewis "Big John" Bryant, age 66, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He was born January 11, 1942 in Kelton, South Carolina to Bishop Derrick Bryant and Jessie Rodgers Bryant.

Mr. Bryant attended Mecklenburg County and Iredell County public schools. He was employed at Abex Company where he was a Press Operator. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Male Chorus.

Mr. Bryant is preceded in death by two daughters Edith Bryant and Beverly Bryant Fisher. He was also previously married to the late Gladys Sloan Bryant.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Wilma Millsaps, Asheville, NC and Phyllis Duren (Keith) Salisbury, NC; brothers, James Bryant, Troutman, NC and Frederick Bryant (Deanna), Statesville, NC; sisters, Rosa Lee Bryant, Troutman, NC and Josephine Bryant, Statesville, NC; Nine grandchildren, Thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2pm at Gethsemane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Phelps who is the pastor will be officiating. The viewing will be held at 1:30pm on Friday prior to the service. The burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery immediately following the service. Hairston Funeral Home, Inc. is serving the family.
