Mr. John Lyerly, age 78 earned his heavenly wings on, Saturday, October 10, 2020 at his residence. John was born on, October 15, 1941 in Rowan County to the late Joe Lyerly, Jr., and Julia Gaither Lyerly. He was a graduate of R.A. Clement High School, graduating class of 1960, and earned a diploma in Small Business Management in his later years.
Throughout his life, he worked for Ingersoll-Rand for 11 years, was a Certified Nurse Assistant for 18 years, owned /operated a lawn care business for over 30 years and and owned/operated a general retail business for over 35 years.
He was a faithful member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the choir.
John was happily married to Mattie Lyerly, who was his life partner, Mattie for over 49 years at the time of his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Wayne Ellis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mattie of the home, his sons, Kevin L. Lyerly (Tammy), Reginal G. Lyerly (Octavia) and Michael T. Lyerly, brothers; Edward L. Lyerly (Vera) and Joe N. Lyerly; two step-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of extended relatives and friends.
Service: Saturday, October 17, 2020-Jerusalem Baptist Church, Spencer, NC-Visitation 11:30 a.m.-Funeral 12:00 Noon. Rev. David L. Bracken, pastor, eulogist. The family will receive friends at the church during the 30 minute visitation.
COVID-19 mandate is still in effect. The number of attendees is limited and must wear a face covering.
