Mr. John Calvin Mills, age 68, affectionately called "Jake" of 226 W. "C" Street, Salisbury, NC died Monday, January 12, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, NC.

Mr. Mills was born August 4, 1940 in Mooresville, NC to the late James E. and Lillian Farar Mills, Sr.

He attended Dunbar High School, Mooresville. He was last employed as a security Guard. Mr. Mills previously attended Jones Chapel Baptist Church, Mooresville, NC. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Vietnam Era and also served in the National Guard.

Survivors are his wife, Shirley H. Mills of the home; step son, Lonnell Dunn (Cathie) and son, Correy D. Mills (Denecca) both of Salisbury, NC; brothers, James E. "Speedy" Mills and Willis Foster Mills both of Mooresville, NC; sisters, Georgianna Berryman, Augusta, GA and Pauline Colvert )(Marvin), Statesville, NC; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at 1:00 pm at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, Salisbury, NC with Rev. Luther Gamble, officiating; visitation will be at 12:30 at the church. Burial with military honors will in the US National Cemetery.
