John Phillips, Sr. Obituary

Mr. John Thomas Phillips, Jr., of Salisbury, passed February 19, 2025.  He was born in Rowan County on, February 23, 1951 to the late Robert L. Phillips, Sr., and the late Beatrice Strickland Phillips.  John was a graduate of J. C. Price High School, Salisbury, a Veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, and the American Legion Post 107 and was a licensed Beekeeper.  John retired as a Maintenance Engineer from the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  His last employment was with the Salisbury Transit.

John was a mild-mannered person, who loved his family dearly.  He was an awesome cook and enjoyed cooking for his family and others.  He was an avid gardener and was a "top" fan of his favorite professional football team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

John leaves cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife, Judy Hairston Phillips of the home, daughter, Yolanda Nunn (Donnie), Virginia; son, John Phillips, Jr., (Shashonda), Charlotte; step-daughter, Claytonia Dillard, Salisbury and step-son, Charles Dillard, Jr., (Susan), Spencer, NC; sister, Geraldine Miller, East Spencer, and brother, Robert L. Phillips, Jr., (Linda), Tampa Bay, Fl; He was a proud Paw-Paw to 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Service:  March 6, 2025-Jerusalem Baptist Church, Spencer, NC, Dr. David L. Bracken, pastor.  Visitation: 12:30-1:00. Funeral begins promptly at 1:00. Rev. Ruby Steele, eulogist.  Interment will follow at 2:30 promptly in the US National Cemetery, Statesville Blvd., location with military rites.
