Mabel Mills Obituary

Ms. Mabel Mills, age 104 of The Laurels of Salisbury, departed this life on Thursday, October 25, 2007. She was born on December 17, 1902 in Rowan County to the late Thomas and Mary Jane Cowan Mills. She was educated in Rowan County Schools and later moved to New York and became an excellent caterer.

At an early age, she joined Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church and later became a member of Soldier's Memorial AME Zion Church, Salisbury, NC, where she became an active member of the associate trustee board, deaconess board, lay council and the visiting choir to the nursing homes. She was a loving and devout Christian, always reaching out to help others, especially in the area of missions.

Mable was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Mae and five brothers, Clyde, Lee, Thomas, Samuel and Edward Mills. Four sisters; Pearlie M. Torrence, Mary M. McCorkle Smith, Nellie M. Patterson and Alda M. Davidson.

Her prinicipal caregivers, Ollie P. Byers and Osczr Patterson, Jr., survive her as well as other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews and great, great, great nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1423 W. Monroe St., Salisbury, NC 28144. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Soldier's Memorial AME Zion Church at 12:00 p.m. Visitation-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Rev. Dr. Grant Harrison, Pastor officiating.
