Mrs. Maggie Reese Witherspoon, age 81, of 7734 Big Buck Dr., Baltimore, MD died Tuesday, June , 2009, at Genesis Eldercare, Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Witherspoon was born in Salisbury, NC on July 21, 1927. She was the only daughter of four born to the late Ed Reese and Nathalee Burdine Reese. Her brothers, James "Pete" Reese and Leroy Reese preceded her in death. She attended J.C. Price High School and upon graduation, she attended Livingstone College. While attending college, she met and married Carter Witherspoon, and from this union, two daughters were born.

She was a member of the Pride of Jersey Temple Elks Lodge#98, the North New Jersey Council No.1, and a member of the New Jersey State auxiliary. She was also Chairman of the Trustee Board of the Past State President's Club of New Jersey. She was Second Vice President of the Past Grand Daughter Rulers Circle of New Jersey. Colonel Witherspoon was an Inspector of the Northern New Jersey Antler Guard Department.

Mrs. Witherspoon was employed in the private industry as a revenue Accountant with APA Corporation for twenty-three years before retirement.

After moving to Baltimore,with her daughter, she became a member of the Liberty Road Church of God Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Shirley Russell Williams (Rufus) of Baltimore, Md., and Sandra Corpening (Richard) of Spencer, NC;, a brother, Robert Reese (Venesa) of Salisbury, NC;, six grandchildren, Machelle Russell Thompson, Larrics Russell, Jr., Brian Witherspoon, Sonja Walton, Tonya Maultsby, and Ricky Acosta; nine great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mary Reese, Charlottesville, Va., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral, Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 3:00 p.m., and Visitation 2:30 p.m. at Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ, Spencer, NC. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Salisbury, NC, on Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.
