Mrs. Marian Hairston, age 84, of 201 South Institute Street, Salisbury, NC died Saturday at her residence.
Born April 10, 1923 to the late Reverend William and Jessie Partee Sloan. Mrs. Hairston attended the Rowan County Public Schools and graduated from J. C. Price High School. After graduation, she entered Steward's School of Cosmetology, Asheville, NC. After graduation, she was an operator at Randalls's Beauty for 13 years.
Marian was a loyal and dedicated wife to her first husband, Robert R. Keaton for 39 years. In 1955, she became a nurse's assistant at the V. A. Medical Center and retired in 1983 after 28 years of service.
Mrs. Hairston was a life long member of First Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Deaconess Board, Willing Workers, Missionary #5, Sunday School and other activities of the church.
In 1993, she was united in marriage to the Reverend S. F. Hairston, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC. She was a loving wife and supporter of her husband his church, Smith Grove Baptist Church, Hiddenite, NC.
Mrs. Hairston was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy S. Mitchell and two brothers, William Sloan, Jr. and David Sloan.
She leave to cherish her memory a brother, Thomas Sloan (Edith), salisbury, NC; sisters, Virginia Lockett, Philadelphia, PA and Jessie Childers, Salisbury, NC; step sons, Samuel F. Hairston, Jr. (Terri), Sacramento, CA and Ronnie Staples, High Point, NC; step daughters, Martha Edwards (Thurmond), Winston-Salem, NC, and Leretha Hairston of the home; niece, Gloria Thompson (Benjamin), Salisbury, NC; nephews, Lonnie Childers, Salisbury, NC, Christopher Childers, China Grove, NC, Douglas Mitchell, Rural Hall, NC, William Mitchell, Charlotte, NC and James Mashore, Philadelphia, PA; other nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law, Robert Lee Hairston, Winston-Salem, NC and friends.
Services will be Thursday, August 23, 2007 2:00 pm at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Pastor, Reverend Leamon Brown, officiating; visitation will be at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery.
