Mr. Marion Norman Xavier "June" Smith, Jr., age 77, of 549 Bostian Ave., Kannapolis, NC died on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the W.G. "Bill" Hefner VA Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born July 12, 1931 in Gaston County to the late Marion Norman Smith, Sr. and Ella Ola Betty Robinson.

He was educated in the public schools of Gaston County. He was a retired Custodian. Mr. Smith served his country during the Korean Conflict, having served with the US Army.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Martha McLaughlin and a brother, Marvin "Mayvan" Smith.

Those who shall cherish his memory are a daughter, Debbie Jo Martin, Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Damajo Smith (Tiffany), Mt. Holly, NC, Marion Smith (Tiana) and Victor Martin, both of Erie, Pa.; Thomas Lamont McLaughlin (Sarlina), Kings, Mt., NC; Trinika Posey (Billy), Kannapolis, NC and Robie Glaspy, Kannapolis, NC; as well as a host of great-grandchidren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at U.S. National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC with Chaplain Ethel Bamberg-Revis, officiating. Military rites will be performed at the service.
