Martha Carter Obituary

Matha Electir Carter was born to the late Eddie Lee Miller and Idella Cornelius on March 7, 1939, in Rowan County.  She was the younger twin by 7 minutes.

Martha received her education in the North Carolina School System.  She was always strong-willed.  As an adult in 1957, she decided to relocate to New York City to gain employment with the better opportunities for herself and her family.  She worked in the private duty sector for Stan and Debbie Markowitz until she retired.  Martha's love for her children and family was unmatched, she was straight forward and stern.  She loved God and was a woman of strong faith.

In 1968, Martha met and later married Lewis Carter.  This union was blessed with a son.  There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for her children or family.  She loved them unconditionally.  Weekends at the "twins house" growing up was "Epic".  You would be met with love and laughter and some good ole soul food, maybe some straighten if needed by "Anne" as we all affectionately called her.  She didn't play.  We all are going to miss her.

On, January 14, at St. John Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, NY, Martha departed this life.  She was preceded in death by her siblings:  Beatrice Miller, and Connie Miller; nephews; William Miller and Eddie Phifer.

Martha leaves to cherish her memory her three sons; George Miller of Queens, NY, Darius Miller (Tammy) of Far Rockaway, NY and Lewis Carter of Brooklyn, NY.  One brother, Clyde Cornelius; three sisters, her "twin", Mabel Miller of Fayetteville, NC, Mary Kelly of Concord, NC, and Kathleen Miller, Charlotte, NC.  20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, four god-daughter, Theresa Coleman, Shariah White, Sharon Guyton and Diane Wilkonson, and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends.

Service: January 28, 2023- Sills Creek A.M.E. Zion Church, 3165 Bradshaw Road, Mooresville, NC .  Rev. Raymondo Brady, pastor/eulogist.  Visitation: 11:30 a.m. Funeral: 12:00 noon.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
