Reverend Samuel F. Hairston, Sr., age 89, of 201 South Institute Street, Salisbury,NC died Sunday at his residence. He was the son of the late Samuel and Martha Baron Hairston. He attended Kimberly Park and Atkins High School, Winston-Salem, NC and the Wheatly and Piedmont Bible Colleges. Reverend Hairston preached his initial sermon on January 3, 1054 at New Bethel Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC and was ordained February 6, 1956 by Dr. R. M. Pitts, Moderator of the Rowan Baptist Association. His pasturages include New Light Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, Mt. Carmal Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC, Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church, Mocksville, NC, St. John Baptist church, Climax, NC and his last pastorage and where he retired from Smith Grove Baptist Church, Hiddenite, NC. His affiliations are past vice Moderator of the Yadkin Davie association; past Grand Pusuant for the state of North Carolina Prince Hall Masons for 28 years; a past Grand Master; a member and past Patron of Meridian chapter #308 Order of the Eastern Stars; past Master of Salem Lodge #139. He was also a member of the National Hairston Clan, Inc. He is preceded in death by wives, Emma Anderson Hairston and Marian Sloan Hairston. Survivors are sons, Samuel F. Hairston, Jr. (Terri), Sacramento, CA and Ronnie Staples, High Point, NC; daughters, Martha Edwards (Thurmond), Winston-Salem, NC and Leretha Hairston of the home; step sons, Rudy Hairston (Betty) Fresno, CA, Alvin Anderson (Mary), Wellford, SC, Thomas Anderson (Frankie) and Harold Anderson both of Greer, SC; step daughter, Pauline Arnold of Taylors, SC; brother, Robert Lee Hairston, Winston-Salem, NC; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 23, 2007 2:00 pm at First Calvary Baptist Church with the Pastor, Reverend Leamon Brown, officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, NC.
