Mrs. Ruth Lake Stokes, age 86, of Salisbury passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, NC.
Mrs. Stokes was born June 21, 1923 in Rowan County to the late W. M. and Eula Ford Lake.
She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and Catawba Valley Technical College earning a degree in nursing.
Mrs. Stokes retired from the W. G. Hefner V. A. Medical Center, Salisbury. She was a devout member of the Hurley School Road Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Leon Stokes, Sr. and a son, Leon Robert "Sonny" Stokes.
Those who survive are a granddaughter, Rochal Stokes Blackwell (Tim), Salisbury, NC; grandsons, Leon Robert Stokes, III, Monroe, GA and Bryant Keith Stokes (Linda), Humble, TX; five great grandchildren; brothers, sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special recognization to Mr.& Mrs. Frank Torrence, Jr. of Salisbury.
Memorial service will be Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 6:30 pm at the Hurley School Road Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, Salisbury. Brother Sam Lowry, officiating.
