Sara Ellis Obituary

Mama Dee, as she was affectionately called, was the tenth child born to Ralph and Pearl Wilson, now deceased, from Salisbury, NC on January 30, 1959. Siblings preceding her in death, Maggie (Henry) Smith, Tinnie (Leon) Hall, Ernest (Sue) Wilson, Curly Joe Wilson. She married Robert Ellis (deceased).

A delightful child, filled with curiosity, joy and high energy, she graduated from Salisbury High School and attended Bennett College in Greensboro.

Winning the admiration of all who knew her, Mama Dee was a loving and kind person who would give you her all. She was very talented musically and was a lead singer in the S&W Express family band, later named Midnight Madness Band, performing in many venues including the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York.

Other talents included caring for children and cooking. Most of all, she was always willing to step forward and stand in the gap as demonstrated in assuming the role of motherhood. With a love that surpassed understanding, Mama Dee gave the best she had to Imon and the many other children that she cared for.

Mama Dee knew and loved Christ and in the end, had an image on her face that confirmed the bonds between them. She leaves to mourn a loving companion, Thomas Williams, a daughter, Imon (Maurice) Chambers and two grandchildren, Camiya and Ibn Chambers, two sisters, Ms. Ruth Smith of Hawkinstown and Dr. Eleanor Elaine (Jackie) Greene of High Point, three brothers, Thomas (Irene) Wilson, Jr. of Hawkinstown, Cecil (Carolyn) Wilson of Salisbury, and Tony (Priscilla) Wilson of China Grove and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends that she completely adored.

Memorial Service: Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 1:00 PM.  West End Business and Community Center 1400 W. Bank Street, Salisbury, NC 28144
