Mr. Willie John Smith, age 74, of 199 East 100th street, New York, NY passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born October 9, 1934 in Rowan County. He was the son of the late Lewis Albert Monroe Smith and Mable Wilkerson Smith.

He was a graduate of Aggrey Memorial High School. He was a retired Auto Body Mechanic. He formerly attended Oak Grove Baptist Church, China Grove, NC.

In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by a sister, Nora Faye Smith Rhames.

Those who shall cherish his memory are his wife, Mae Frances Torrence Smith of Salisbury; sons, Ricky Eugene Smith (Ruthie), Sumter, SC and Tryone Bernard Smith, Tucson, AZ; daughters, Barbara LaFay Smith-McCullough (Haley) and Sheryl Denece Smith-Jones both of Salisbury and Anaya Smith, Anderson, SC; step daughter, Yolanda Denton, NY, NY; brother, Tommy Lewis Smith (Janet), China Grove, NC; aunt, Grace Smith Blakeney, China Grove, NC; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 7, 2009 at 1:00 pm and visitation at 12:30 pm. The officiating minister will be the Pastor, Reverend James I. Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
