Mr. Wilton Martin, formerly of Salisbury, died Monday, July 7, 208 in Baltimore, Md. He was 96 years of age.

Wilton attended the Banks County School System in Georgia. In 1976, he retired after 40 years from the Southern Railway.

Mr. Martin was married to the late Ruby Gaither for 53 years. After the death of his lovely wife, Rube, he married Pauline Morton, who also preceded him in death.

Wilton leaves to cherish his memories, love and life, two sons, Wilton (Camilla) and Robert (Shirley) of Maryland; one daughter, Roberta Ramsey of Maryland; one sister, Lizzie Mayfield of Cooleemee; seven grandchildren, Maria Martin and Rubetta Gorham of Maryland, Le'Monte Ramsey, Theresa Martin and Angela Chichester of Georgia, Steven Ramsey of Florida and Nannette Brooks of Pennsylvania; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Wilton also leaves some very special friends, Robbin Brown, Ruby and Grant Gilliam, Shirley Scott, Herbert and JoAnn Parker, Louise Martin and Ersell Griffin.

Services: The Homegoing Service will be held at Ervin Temple CME Church in Woodleaf, NC, on Friday, July 11, 2008. The Family Hour will be at 11:00 a.m. and Homegoing Service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Rowan Memorial Park. Bishop Dwayne C. Debnam, pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church, Cantonsville, Md., will be the eulogist.
