James David Streater, Sr.

December 18, 1947 ~ November 15, 2016 (age 68) 68 Years Old


Deacon James David Streater, Sr., peacefully went home to be with the Lord on, Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his residence.  He was born December 18, 1947 in Chesterfield, SC, the son of the late Major and Josie Bell McManus Streater.  He was also preceded in death by his oldest son, James David Streater, Jr., on June 28, 2015.  He graduated from Gary High School in Chesterfield, SC in 1965 and received his Associate Degree from Rowan Cabarrus Community College.  He then met the love of his life, Peggy Jolene Davis in 1967 and they were married on February 26, 1968.  They would've celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this coming February 25, 2017. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was a member of the Special Forces Team in the Communication field as a Radio Teletype Operator.  His last employment was with the Salisbury Post Publishing Co., of 30+ years.  He was then promoted as Press Room Supervisor for the USA Today.

Mr. Streater loved traveling and spending time with his family, his grandchildren, family reunions and reading the word.  He also enjoyed computer games and educational games.  Around Christmas time, the Streater's would pack their truck with toys and games and give out to families.  He was a very active and faithful member for 40+ years at the Solid Rock Church of God (formerly Locke St. Church of God). He and his wife Peggy spearheaded the Vacation Bible School there under the leadership of Pastor Sheldon Southerland.  He also served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Trustee Board, Church Treasurer, Choir, Missionary Board, Church Van Driver, Correspondent Secretary, Program Committee, Men's Ministry an Rowan/Davie Counties Deacon Alliance.  But most of all, he was truly a child of God.  Until his death, he was a member of the Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, where he continued serving as a Deacon, Chairman of the Men's Ministry, member of the Finance Committee, Program Committee, Men's Ministry and the Rowan/Davie Counties Deacon Alliance.

He leaves to cherish his precious & loving memories to his lovely wife, Peggy Jolene Davis Streater; sons, William Streater and wife, Rita, Atlanta, Ga.; Curtis Streater and wife Deanna of Salisbury, NC; daughter-n-law, Zenith Streater of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Dai'Shaun, Shante, Brittney, Jeremiah, Vivian, Kadija, Olivia, and Gabrielle Jolene; one brother, Mr. Elton Streater; two sisters, Ms. Hattie Myers and Ms. Nellie Streater; a sister-in-law, Ms. Jessie Bookhard; a brother-in-law, Mr. Boysie Davis, all of Salisbury; three aunts, Ms. Edora McManus and Ms. Rosie Mae Streater of Chesterfield, SC, and Ms. Margaret Melton of Mocksville, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Service:  Visitation-2:30 p.m. Funeral 3:30 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2016-Jerusalem Baptist Church, Spencer, NC.  Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with military honors.  Rev. Clarence Marlin, pastor of Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, officiant/eulogist.
