T.H. Hairston, Sr.


Tommy H. Hairston, Sr., is a life long resident of Rowan County and the "Five Row" community. He is a graduate of North Rowan High School and Fayetteville Technical Community College, having earned an Associates Degree in Funeral Service and Embalming.  He is the husband of Velveeta Reid-Hairston. 

Tommy is President of Hairston Funeral Home, Inc., and a life long member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, located in Spencer, NC, where he is a Deacon, Usher and member of the Men's Choir. 

His community affiliations are many and he has  received many awards and recognitions including Professional of the Year in several organizations.  

Tommy continues to hold current license in funeral service.  

He  serves as a support to the current licensees and staff, who are entrusted by Hairston Funeral Home, Inc., to continue keeping our motto," Professionalism Exemplifies Our Service" alive.  Providing "excellence" in every aspect of funeral service to our families.

Resident Funeral Director Trainee, Notary, Accounts Manager/Bereavement Consultant/Community Resour

Mrs. Velveeta Reid-Hairston is a native of Eastern North Carolina.  She is the wife of Tommy H. Hairston, Sr.

Velveeta is currently entitled to practice as a Funeral Director resident trainee as approved by the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service.   She is the funeral home Administrative Assistant/ Accounts Manager and Community Programs Coordinator.

Velveeta holds a B.S. degree from Livingstone College and a Master of Social Work degree (Clinical Track) from Norfolk State University.  She holds NC Department of Public Instruction license in School Social Work,  grades K-12, and is a Certified Clinical Sex Offender Treatment Specialist.  

Velveeta is a member  Alpha Alpha Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Salisbury.

Velveeta is also available to provide bereavement counseling to families and aftercare services.

Funeral Attendant

Bernard serves as a funeral attendant with the firm.  He is the husband of Emma Archie Hunter.  He is experienced in the area of heating and air conditioning.  He is a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, where he serves in the video and transportation ministry.

Jonathan Thomas

Mr. Jonathan Thomas, from Concord, NC comes to the firm with years of funeral service experience.  He is a licensed, ordained minister and holds a BS degree in Religion and a Masters in Religion and also holds doctorate of religion degree from Tri County Bible Seminary, Maxton, NC.  

He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. James H. Thomas. Originally from Montgomery County, he graduated from West Montgomery High School.

He is married to Mrs. Fannie S. Thomas and they are the proud parents of three daughter's and one son.  And, grandfather of seven.

He is a member of Sandridge Missionary Baptist Church in Maxton, NC.

Mrs. Juanita Miller is an experienced, licensed funeral director, Elder, and Notary.  She comes to Hairston Funeral Home also as a Pre-Need Consultant/Specialist and licensed insurance agent

Mr. Laws brings over 15 years of funeral service experience as a director/embalmer, and manager.

Emma Archie-Hunter-Deceased

Emma Archie Hunter is a native of Rowan County. She comes to the firm as Clerical Support. She is the wife of Bernard Hunter and the proud mother of Cassandra Walker, LPN, New York City, NY and grandmother of Preston Wallace, III (musician). 

She attended Livingstone College and retired from Rowan Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, where she serves in the nursing ministry, missionary ministry and greeter ministry. 

Emma is also a member of the National Hairston Clan and the Hairston Funeral Home Honors/Scholarship Project.

Our beloved Emma passed, September 19, 2018.  She is missed every day at Hairston Funeral Home, Inc.  She will never be forgotten.  Emma, we love you still.
