T.H. Hairston, Sr.
Tommy H. Hairston, Sr., is a life long resident of Rowan County and the "Five Row" community. He is a graduate of North Rowan High School and Fayetteville Technical Community College, having earned an Associates Degree in Funeral Service and Embalming. He is the husband of Velveeta Reid-Hairston.
Tommy is President of Hairston Funeral Home, Inc., and a life long member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, located in Spencer, NC, where he is a Deacon, Usher and member of the Men's Choir.
His community affiliations include a member of the Rowan-Davie Deacon's Alliance; member and has served as 2nd Vice President as well as a past President of the Salisbury Branch of the NAACP; past member of the Salisbury Planning Board; a member and past board member of the Funeral Directors & Morticians Association of NC and the National Funeral Directors & Morticians; President of the Salisbury Rowan Branch of the National Hairston Clan; and numerous other organizations; having received many awards and recognitions including Professional of the Year in several organizations. Along with his wife, Velveeta, Aunt, Emma A. Hunter and Uncle, Bernard Hunter, he was instrumental in organizing the Hairston Funeral Home Honor/Scholarship Project.
Tommy is an experienced funeral home director and embalmer and takes pride in the work he does with families. His caring and sharing skills equips him for being the community servant that he is.
He continues to be very active in funeral service and serves as a mentor to new staff. He is available at the funeral home on a daily basis.
